- Erinn Schaap
It’s not always a constant in my life but when I find myself in trying times, the key to my spiritual health and growth is found in the living word of God. My husband and I have felt the Lord tell us to take a step of audacious faith. We are waiting on Him for our next assignment and in the wait I look to these scriptures to help focus me on the great plan for us, why we’re here, and how much he loves us along the way.
For these pieces I chose beautiful imagery of the world around us. Because for me, God speaks tangibly through nature & travel. That's where I am when I hear his voice, when I feel his arms around me and where I see with my eyes all the creativity he encompasses. If even just a sliver of that creativity was placed inside of me from the God who created me, then I want to use it to glorify him and to expand & enrich his kingdom. I hope that whatever season of life you find yourself in, that you would grab onto scripture and that it would become alive in you.
Reference these verses I used for the inspiration to these pieces:
“You are the salt of the earth.”
Message - Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.
“A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house...”
Message - We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
“You are the light of the world.
Message - “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept.”
“This exile is just like the days of Noah for me: I promised then that the waters of Noah would never again flood the earth. I’m promising now no more anger, no more dressing you down. For even if the mountains walk away and the hills fall to pieces, My love won’t walk away from you, my covenant commitment of peace won’t fall apart.” The God who has compassion on you says so.
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
