I’ve always loved fashion, even from a very young age. I remember when I was five and six years old, sketching and designing my own line of funky and unique pieces that I aspired to create once I was tall enough to see over a sewing machine. As an adult, I've created The Lovely Sewjourner, my very own clothing line... and those childhood dreams are becoming a reality.
My biggest inspiration for the pieces that I create is my hope to provide women and young ladies everywhere with the confidence and self-respect they were created to have. I believe that what we wear is a reflection of our personality and creativity. I love that I can help beautiful ladies accentuate their vivacious personalities and who they are through what they wear! Every woman is beautifully unique and perfect the way they were created. That is why I do what I do, and why I enjoy doing it. I create to help women grow in self-confidence, and with the aim of helping them understand how lovely they actually are, so they can feel comfortable in their own skin.
I come from a very small town in which there were never many stores to shop in, where I could find things that I loved or things that really made me feel beautiful. I started buying different fabrics and experimenting with my mom’s sewing machine to create my own clothes that did make me feel beautiful, and stand out amongst the crowd.
Never in my wildest dreams did I expect my love for fashion and creating my own pieces to turn into a successful business... until recently.
About 5 months ago I was chosen as one of the top 5 fashion stylists in the United States by the gorgeous clothing company "Free People”. During that time I received such encouraging feedback from them on the clothing I made and sent them, as well as from friends, family, and even strangers. At that time, I designed and created a few unique and original pieces for myself and every time I wore them people would stop me on the street or at work, and ask where I got them. Once they found out I was the creator they would ask me to design and create for them as well. That’s the point when I decided to test out having my own clothing line, which seemed like only a silly dream at the time.
When I began my line I started with kimonos, because they were something I was familiar with making and one of the biggest staples of my own wardrobe. It was still just a small scale dream of an idea in my mind... until orders started piling up, and piling up, to the point that I had to quit my actual day-job to fulfill the orders I had coming in! Every time I shipped out my one-of-a-kind pieces I felt my dream becoming a reality, and each piece of encouraging feedback from my customers fueled my creativity and love of the little business that I was building.
At this point, my brand, “The Lovely Sewjourner”, has been up and running for about a month and a half. In this time I have sold and shipped over 100 custom kimonos, have gotten to sell my pieces in 2 beautiful boutiques, and have met some amazing new friends along the way. If I have made one woman feel beautiful and lovely then I have achieved exactly what I feel I was made to do.
God gave me the creativity and artistic ability to design and create these lovelies, and I could not be happier to do so.
